In the prayer the Creed, Christ is called Light which is proceeding from Light - the Father, a reference to the Prologue of John's gospel (John 1, 4). Light can be described by its effects: it makes things visible, overcomes darkness, gives life and warmth, and brings order to the flow of time by the changing of days and nights. It is not an accident that in Christianity Light is one of God's names (Pseudo-Dionysius; Augustine of Hippo) because the word can be used as a synonym for God: God makes things clear, understandable; he brings the light of knowledge to the darkness of ignorance; he is the genuine source of enlightenment. God is a creator of life, sustaining the world.
These statements I suggest are mutual for many of the main religions of today's world, which means that there might be a possible way to create an intelligible common symbol or a symbolic artistic language that could make our religions and in consequence our cultures, more approachable and understandable to one another. In my opinion, art could serve in this process as an arbitrator because, through it, we can illustrate how we perceive the world around us and how we define it.
The combination of the symbol of light, referring to the divine nature of Christ, and the figurative representation of the human body, pointing to His physical appearance, rendered in this artwork, visualised the Christian teaching about Christ, the true God and the true human.
